A strategic collaboration for modular e-mobility

Pininfarina, Bosch and BENTELER together to provide car manufacturers with new modular electric vehicle platforms. Combining their vehicle integration expertise allows them to jointly face market with a complete package. Final goal is a new modular, scalable and tailor-made e-mobility plan developed together with future clients, who can also count on unparalleled benefit: a unique style of Pininfarina.


The way

A turn-key service provider for EV manufacturers

Thanks to this strategic collaboration, Bosch, BENTELER and Pininfarina are now able to offer car manufacturers fast prototyping as well as complete vehicle and product development services up to start of production. This prototyping is based on a proven rolling chassis solution from Bosch and BENTELER. It provides a predefined design, it is fully functional and immediately applicable for the development of electric vehicles. This saves the customers’ time and money, making them speed up their time-to-market even more.

By onboarding Pininfarina, Bosch and BENTELER are complementing their existing collaboration for the Rolling Chassis. This comprises fields of style and top hat engineering for an optimized link to the car body. This way they provide car manufacturers with an even broader scope of the Rolling Chassis.

Driven by electric drivetrain megatrends, car manufacturers are increasingly seeking pre-validated system solutions that offer an easy and reliable way to build new electric vehicle from scratch. This is even truer in the world of start-ups, especially those with semi-premium and premium positioning, desiring a platform.

Bosch, BENTELER and Pininfarina, together support in developing dedicated electrically-born packaging, paralleling current platforms. Bosch and BENTELER announced their collaboration in a development cooperation for an electrical rolling chassis in April 2019. This platform ranges from pre-integrated modules to complete rolling chassis solutions. The platform follows a modular approach and is scalable for different car segments. The development cooperation of Bosch and BENTELER brings together the expertise of both companies for system integration of electric modules and rolling chassis solutions.

The idea

A complementary set of skills

BENTELER understands the requirements that rolling chassis places on products and systems in the automotive industry and is responsible for mechanical integration. This includes integrated crash management, flexible and scalable battery pack as well as integrated thermal management.

Bosch brings in electrical and electronic components and subsystems (e.g. vehicle controller, electric drives, steering and braking systems). This includes software and systems integration and services for safety and security.

Pininfarina, with its 90 years of expertise in the automotive industry, will provide top hat unique style and engineering, successfully integrating the upper body structure with the chassis. Thanks to its expertise as vehicle integrator, Pininfarina owns the knowhow for successfully integrating the single components into the car, in accordance with installation and functionality requirements, and to deliver the right Advanced Driver Auxiliary System integration achieving state of the art performances during the driving experience.
