We don't limit ourselves to the aesthetic beauty of the vessel but design every aspect considering how it will be experienced. The way in which the internal and external spaces are perceived is a key element in Pininfarina's nautical design.

UX Definition

A multisensorial experience, uniquely crafted for the client’s target, integrated in a seamless way for a lifestyle like no other on the yachts designed by Pininfarina.

Pininfarina, as a whole, is not just about beauty: it’s about how it is experienced. The way the spaces are felt and lived onboard is a core element of Pininfarina's yacht design. How the space interact with the people and how the people interact with the space goes a long way in determining the overall quality of the final yacht.

Design Development

Pininfarina's design services cover the entire creative and product development process, particularly encompassing the following stages of work:

  • Styling benchmarking & Trends analysis

  • Ideas (Sketches & Renderings)

  • Colour & Trim

  • Virtual Surfaces

  • Virtual Movies

  • Physical Modelling (scale models)

  • Virtual Reality

From a methodological perspective, some aspects are of particular interest to our clients, ensuring the quality of the work developed by the Pininfarina team:

  • The ability to collaborate and communicate with all project stakeholders (Shipyard, Owner's Representative, Naval Architect, etc.) as necessary in each stage of boat development, from initial style proposals to design development through production.

  • Flexibility to activate a collaborative working model with the client's design team, if present, based on engagement rules defined according to the client's requests and project evolution.

2D, 3D, Ready to Mill

Pininfarina's creative process begins with 2D style proposals based on the project targets and client's requirements. The 2D proposals are crafted following an analysis of design trends and explore various stylistic inspirations. The chosen style proposal by the client is then further developed in 3D, adhering to the dimensional, technical, and production constraints set by the project. Pininfarina's involvement can extend to providing ready-to-mill drawings for production.

The Collaboration between Pininfarina and De Simoni Yacht Design

The strategic partnership between Pininfarina and De Simoni Yacht Design integrates the solid skills and long experience of the Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design studio with those of Pininfarina, capable of bringing freshness and innovation thanks to experience in diverse sectors - from automotive to architecture. The collaboration was consolidated through the opening of the Design Boutique on the sea in the heart of Porto Lotti in La Spezia, placing the two design studios in the Miglio Blu, a leading reality for the nautical industry that includes the world's greatest excellences.
Pininfarina and De Simoni Yacht Design have already worked on the design of two yachts: X2 - Explorer X Experience, research project and CAT56 a catamaran project for Austin Parker.

Aerodynamic Testing

The Pininfarina Wind Tunnel represents a cutting-edge strategic tool not only for the automotive sector but also for other applications where aerodynamic and aeroacoustic validation is required to achieve high standards in terms of performance, energy consumption, and overall comfort. In the marine sector, examples of these applications include aerodynamic tests of foil-equipped boats and validation of flows on boat superstructures.

Bespoke Projects

Pininfarina has always had a deep connection with the sea. The passion for freedom and beauty, which has found many expressions in the automotive world, has also given birth to many gems in the nautical sector since the 1960s.

In the design of yachts for private clients, Pininfarina's approach is centred around the individual, positioning them as the epicentre of the project with their desires and dreams. From the automotive sector, Pininfarina inherited the ability to manage relationships with "special clients" from high society (royal families, entrepreneurs, actors, and actresses) who seek personalized and tailored solutions in the world of yachting. Among the most famous are G. Cinquanta for Gianni Agnelli, Corsara for Aga Khan, and the recent Tango WallyCento.

Refitting

Pininfarina's refit program caters to boat owners who wish to modify their vessel, whether it's a minor alteration to the interior furnishings or a more extensive intervention, such as modifying superstructures or the stern cockpit. Our team collaborates closely with the shipyard and naval architect to fulfil the client's requests.

Interior design

The interiors of boats are crafted by a multidisciplinary team of yacht designers and interior architects who guide the client throughout the design phases. This includes defining the layout, selecting furnishings, choosing materials, finishes, and colours. The client is at the heart of the creative process, and the interior spaces are created while respecting the requests for habitability, functionality, and aesthetics, harmonizing living aspects with technical constraints.

Retail and Go-to-Market

Pininfarina guides its clients in identifying the most effective marketing and communication strategies to best support the launch and expansion of a new product in the market. The go-to-market services offered by Pininfarina include the design of retail stores, exhibition spaces, and experiential environments. Additionally, Pininfarina is capable of creating photorealistic renderings and animations that can be used as marketing materials. There is also the possibility to leverage the Pininfarina brand and create synergies in organizing events.

Booth

Thanks to its expertise in interior design, Pininfarina is able to create innovative and immersive exhibition experiences. These experiences are designed through a combination of digital and physical design, engaging stakeholders through the five senses to communicate the brand's values. These exhibition spaces are dedicated to the nautical sector and marinas.

Philosophy and tradition

Timeless beauty

Design shapes the world, and this is what Pininfarina, one of the main global players in the field of design, has always been doing. The philosophy of our design comes from the Founder, Battista Pinin Farina. His work consistently combined aesthetic choices with technical reasoning, in a constant search for beauty and elegance, aiming to envision the future.

Over the years, additional distinctive elements have been added to these principles, which have always characterizied Pininfarina, and these are proposed by Pininfarina to its clients:

The ability, through its multi-sectoral expertise – in Automotive, Transportation, Architecture, Product & Experience - to provide an interdisciplinary approach to design, integrating inspirations and ideas from different sectors.

The availability of its international teams, located in Italy, Germany, China, and America, designed to integrate under a unique creative management and project development, according to the needs of our clients and ensuring the localized management of projects.

The use and continuous investment in the most advanced technologies, to make the design development process more efficient in terms of time and costs, benefiting our clients, and more effective in terms of decision support. An example of this integration of technologies is Pininfarina's Wind Tunnel, a unique and crucial factor in the development of design not only in the automotive industry but also in various other applications. Another example is the use of cutting-edge technologies like virtual reality, allowing the user to visualize onboard spaces in different layouts and finishes.

Pininfarina's inclination to design the future continues to be perpetuated every day with the constant search for innovation and timeless beauty.
