Approach and expertise

Iconic Architecture

Pininfarina brings to architecture a design culture shaped by its automotive experience: continuity of surfaces, control of proportions, integration of aesthetics and function, and a strong focus on performance. Clean lines, sculptural geometries and flowing forms give buildings a recognizable identity and the potential to become landmarks within the urban landscape. In landmark architecture and luxury high-rise residences, fluidity and dynamism are developed in response to the site, the client’s identity and the experience of the people who inhabit the space.

Facades and Performance

The façade brings together architectural expression, comfort and the environmental performance of the building. Wind conditions, solar exposure and environmental analysis can inform geometry, shading, openings and material choices. For high-rise buildings, aerodynamic and aeroacoustic assessments using Pininfarina’s proprietary Wind Tunnel can support the study of wind loads, vibration, noise and comfort around balconies and outdoor areas. Form therefore responds to site-specific conditions while preserving the fluidity and dynamic character of the architectural concept.

DfMA and Modularity

Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), informed by Pininfarina’s automotive experience, brings manufacturing, transportation and assembly considerations into the design process at an earlier stage. Façade systems, modular curved structures and component families can be developed by reducing unnecessary variety, simplifying interfaces and maintaining design integrity. Design precision, production technologies and attention to detail can help create a more controlled transition from concept to realization. Circular design principles, durability, design for disassembly and recoverability can also contribute to buildings conceived to retain value and performance over time.

Integrated Experience

Parametric models, digital twins and advanced construction technologies can support design development by improving control over geometries, components and performance. In smart buildings, automation, lighting, environmental comfort and energy management can be coordinated across architecture, interiors and services to create a more consistent user experience. The same approach can extend to infrastructure and urban design, connecting mobility, public space and digital systems. The aim is to develop sustainable architectural solutions in which design and technology operate across different scales, from the urban landmark to everyday use.
